Royal Frosting and Gingerbread Houses
Excited to make Gingerbread houses tonight with my family. We have the Gingerbread made and ready to go. Bought some gingerbread house cookie cutters at Michaels.
Now I needed a Royal Icing Recipe. So I found this recipe from this website (http://www.kingarthurflour.com/recipes/royal-icing-recipe) You do need Meringue Powder, which can be found at a speciality cooking store, Hobby Lobby or Michaels. The picture is also a link to the website:
1/4 cup meringue powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 to 4 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted
3/4 cup cool water

Directions
1. Place the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Add the cool water, and stir slowly to allow the sugar to dissolve.
2. Mix on low speed at first, increasing to high speed over several minutes. Beat until the icing is fluffy.
3. Keep the frosting covered with a damp towel and some plastic wrap until you have time to use it.
4. Divide the frosting into smaller containers and mix with food coloring for several colors.
5. To use for piping, put a tip in the bottom of a disposable pastry bag. Using a coupler will allow you to change tips with ease.
6. Use a tall, heavy-bottomed glass to hold the pastry bag while you add the frosting. Take care not to fill the bag more than half full.
7. Close the back of the pastry bag with a twist tie or spring clip, to keep the icing from backing up over your hand when you squeeze it.
This is the beautiful Gingerbread house they made:

Christmas Gifts
So I've been working on items for my shop for Christmas. I had a friend say I should do ornaments. So I have added ornaments to my shop. Since I added them one of the items has been on the front page of Etsy two times. My Christmas Star Jars were also featured on the front page. It has been so fun! Hopefully some of the items will start selling :) I'm having fun making new items.

Mermaid Themed Party
Awhile back a customer bought some Mermaid Jars from my shop. She submitted her party and pictures to Kara's Party Ideas. A Blog that is FULL of fun party ideas. Yesterday her party was posted including pictures of my Mermaid jars that they made into bracelets. They told the girls if they sprinkled the glitter in their bath at night they just might grown a Mermaid tail if they were lucky. Here are some pictures of the party with the bracelet. The pictures are links to the blog and to my Etsy shop.

Cookie Update
We made the Sugar Cookie Recipe (from 2 posts prior) that we found in an old book. This was probably the most DELICIOUS Sugar Cookie Recipe I have ever tried. If you have Sour Cream, and Cream of Tarter, I highly recommend these cookies. They are SO soft fluffy and yummy. We baked them for 10 minutes in our oven. The recipe says to bake in a "quick oven." I told my husband I thought our oven was pretty quick!

Neat find in a Vintage Book
My husbands shop has not only toys, but books. As we find these old books he always goes through each book carefully. In this particular book he found a letter dated 1923 and an old hand written recipe. His shop is vintagetoyshoppe.etsy.com
Principles of Cooking. Copyright is early 1900's.
This recipe is probably delicious. I'm excited to try it :)

Ronan
Today I am thinking of my many blessings. Reading about Ronan, a 4 year old boy that passed away from Cancer about a year and a half ago makes me want to hug all of my 4 children a little tighter. This blog : http://rockstarronan.com/ Tells all about this little boy, his journey, losing the battle to cancer. The story touch Taylor Swift and she wrote a song about Ronan, for Ronan, title Ronan. All proceeds go to Cancer, ways to find a cure and ways to help. Here is the Youtube video:

Fairy Party for an 11 Year Old
When my 11 year old daughter asked for a Fairy Party, I wondered how I could pull it off. After much thought and lots of searching I think we made it work :) Here are some of our ideas:
We started with this invitation. This party was the inspiration for adding this invitation to my Etsy shop. The girls loved the invite probably as much as the party itself :
For Decorating we did something similar to this Etsy Shop:
Only I added flowers to ours. They were so perfect hanging in the trees. It would be easy to make, or fun to buy these little mirrors. We found a package at Michaels of round mirrors for inexpensive and made our own.
Its harder to see, but they were just so fun. Each girl took one or two home with them when the party was over.
When the girls came the first thing we did while we waited was played a fairy matching game. We bought this digital print then we could print as many copies as we needed. We also made a game for each of the girls for a party favor:
You won't be able to copy this image, it is watermarked, but the cost to purchase the digital image from this Etsy shop is only $3.50. I felt like it was well worth the money.
Next we painted "Fairy Houses." We went to JoAnn's and found some cute little bird houses for $1. Perfect price for me :) Then I bought some paints and bought some glitter to sprinkle on top. The girls enjoyed making their houses:
While we had the paints out, we made Fairies to go with the houses. This is a fun idea we found on Pintrest. The picture is a link to the site. They are very simple and so fun!
Then all the girls went in the back yard and searched for a Fairy. There are 8 Fairies included and they are $3 to print as many as you want. Once again, this picture has a watermark so you won't be able to print this one. These Fairies came from this shop:
To the back of these Fairies we added a small house charm from this Etsy shop:
Then it was time for presents and Cupcakes. With the cupcakes I decorated with a beautiful edible butterfly from this shop. These are so beautiful and easy to use.
For Party Favors, the girls each had their Fairy Houses, a Fairy Light, Fairy charm, the Fairies they made, a delicious candy stick, a Fairy Magnet made out of buttons from this Etsy shop:
and we included a Fairy necklace from my shop :)
Overall, the party was a great success. Hopefully some of these ideas help with your Fairy Party!
