Blog Feature: ModisonElectricCo

Today my blog is featuring this cool Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ModisonElectricCo

Here is some info about him, his shop and his inspiration:

 1. I'm a married father of an 18 month little girl, and another due in June. I have full time job working as a project manager for a major lighting company. I've decided to start my own company, and my etsy shop is the first step.

2. I got started in college making small lamps out of empty liquor bottles. At first it was a single lamp, as a quick solution to a broken light in my frat house bed room. Soon my friends saw the lamp and began to take some interest. Before I knew it, I had a little business going. The currency was generally cheap beer, which was great until I graduated. Beer doesn't pay for much outside of the college landscape, so I focused on a career, and ten years later here I am. The small business bug bit me again, and Modison Electric Co. was born. We'll see where it goes from here...

3. My favorite material is by far concrete. I love the process and the possibility of so many cool outcomes. From a clean smooth finish to a textured surface, its all great to look at. Being able to incorporate different aggregates like stone, glass, and even metal shavings to give it a rusted look is exciting. There is no exact science with it, much like cooking. The recipe is similar each time, but I love the freedom of being able to change it up a bit and try new things.

4. My wife and daughter are my inspirations. My wife immigrated to the US from a war torn area of Vietnam when she was very young. She managed to pull herself up from poverty that we here in the States couldn't imagine. She recently graduated with a masters degree and I couldn't be more proud. She proves to me every day that no matter how dire your circumstances, if you put your mind to it, you can achieve your goals and live your dreams. MY daughter is spitting image of my wife. At a young age, she is determined, motivated, and hilarious. Whenever my day is going badly, all I have to do is look her in the eye, and she instantly reminds me what is really important in the world. The two of them are all the inspiration I could ever ask for. I'm lucky enough to have a second little girl due at the end of June. I can't wait to see how she inspires me too.

5. My favorite item in my shop is my two-lamp vertical sconce.
I have two of them lining my hallway, and four of them lighting my workshop. They're functional and great looking. By far my best seller locally, as well as online also.

6. In my off time, I love hanging out at the beach with my family. When I need a little alone time, I dive into the ocean and do a little spearfishing or surfing. Its a great way to wash off the troubles of life. Most days I don't even take any fish, I just dive and watch them. Scallops and halibut are my favorite, if the conditions are right.

7. I can be found online at my etsy shop:

Cup Cake Cheese Cakes

I don't have a picture of this one, but it is a YUMMY gluten free recipe. Especially if you like cheesecake.  You can top them with Nutella or Cherries, or your favorite Cheesecake topping.

Use metal cupcake muffin cups for this recipe.

3 8 oz Cream Cheese (I use the 1/3 less fat)
5 Eggs
1 Cup Sugar
1/2 tsp Vanilla

Add Cream Cheese, then add eggs 1 at a time and beat well.  Add sugar gradually.  Then add vanilla.  Pour batter into foil cupcake liners 2/3 full. Bake 50-55 min @ 300 degrees.

Remove from oven. cool. Let sit 5 minutes before taking out of pan.

I hope you ENJOY :)

A Royal Letter

A couple of months ago, my daughter and her friend were at our house. I had found an address for writing to the Queen of England and suggested that my daughter and her friend write a letter. They both did, we mailed them and mostly forgot about them. Until today, when we received a Royal Letter in the mail.  This was so fun for my daughter.  It was a reply from a lady in waiting as the queen was unable to reply.  They sent several interesting brochures with the letter with interesting facts about Buckingham Palace, the Queen and Royal Pets.

The picture is also a link to the official website. Here is also the address:

You can write to Her Majesty at the following address:
Her Majesty The Queen
Buckingham Palace
London SW1A 1AA
If you wish to write a formal letter, you can open with 'Madam' and close the letter with the form 'I have the honour to be, Madam, Your Majesty's humble and obedient servant'.

This traditional approach is by no means obligatory. You should feel free to write in whatever style you feel comfortable.

Etsy Shop TotallyGobsmacked

Here is another fun Etsy shop.  I asked Kirsten some questions about her shop and here are her answers:

I love to make crafts and people kept telling me to sell my stuff on Etsy so one day I did!
I make all sorts of stuff but most are fantasy based.
My recent project has been my mermaid tail and a lot of people don't know that there are mermaids out there so it's been fun seeing kids smile when they see a mermaid at the pool.
My favorite item in my shop is my Swimmable Mermaid/Merman tail, all are custom made and I'd love to create a tail for anyone who wants one. The tails are so much fun to make and I'd love to make more.

These are some Doll Mermaid Tails and Tops she has for sale in her shop.

Thanks for sharing!

I decided to try a larger jar for a necklace (the other size is still available in my shop too).  Both are fun I love how the larger jar turned out!

Etsy Shop Jammasgirls

Today I am featuring an Etsy shop jammasgirls.

This is what Kathy told me about her and her shop inspiration:

I am a wife, mother to two and grandma to four wonderful children. I started Jammasgirls with my daughter and daughter-in-law. When one of my grandaughters started talking she called me Jamma instead of Grandma so that's where our store name came from. As she got a bit older her old brother informed her my name was GRANDMA!!!!!

We wanted to do something together and came up with the fabric necklaces, headbands and TShirt scarfs. We also have some vintage items as I am an ebay seller and that's my focus there.

I would say the Tshirt scarfs are my favorite because it has been fun working with my dauther and daughter-in-law shopping for TShirts and making them.

Thank you for sharing your fun story! Please look at her shop and her many fun items!
