A New Star

My star glitter is changing. I still have a small inventory of my other stars, but soon all the stars in my shop will be this solid star.

Weeknit Etsy Shop

Found this fun Etsy shop. They have been selling for quite awhile, but I just love what they have.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
WeeKnit consists of me (Jenny) and my mom (Tracy).

I am mom to three girls (7, 4, and 6 months). Before taking on the job title of mom, I was a first-grade teacher.

Tracy is the original WAHM (work-at-home mom). She's been running this business for over thirty years while also being supermom to eight kids and now grandma to nine kids.

2. How did you get started with your craft?
As for me, I guess you would say I was born into the trade. I can't really remember a time when my mom wasn't knitting. The hum of the knitting machine has been a constant soundtrack in my life.

As far as Tracy, she started knitting ski hats many moons ago. She then designed and made some finger puppets for a friend's boutique. After many more boutiques, she was introduced to a couple of sales reps that introduced her finger puppets to shops around the country. She's been knitting ever since.

3. What are your favorite materials to work with/favorite mediums?
Hmmmm...I would have to say yarn, yarn, and more yarn. Don't believe me, see the attached pic.

4. What inspires you?
Our items are inspired by the people, animals, and characters that children love. Often times customer requests become permanent additions.

5. What is your favorite item in your shop?
Okay, this question is kind of like asking which child is your favorite - impossible! If you ask what is the best performing item, I would say the Super Heroes Set is our current best seller, while Old McDonald and Zoo Animals remain all-time favorites.

6. What do you enjoy doing in your off time?
Okay, an at-home business, full-time moms....I'll let you know when we have some time off. Personally, I don't think I remember what free time is anymore. ;) In all honesty, I love spending time with my family and if I had more hours in the day, I would spend them with my kiddos.

Red, White and Blue... Cookies!

So I've made homemade Oreos before which are fantastic. These cookies are made the same way.  I found an Etsy shop that sells them, this is my version of that idea.

Start with a white cake mix.  Mix 2 eggs and 3/4 c. Shortening.  Separate batter into 3 bowls  to color. I liked having more white than the other colors, but you could have as much in each as you want.  Mix red food coloring one bowl and blue in another.  Roll a ball of white batter, then pick up some red and blue and gently mix together (be careful to not mix too much or you may end up with a purple cookie).  Roll into a ball. Bake at 350 deg for 10 min (I find this is the perfect time for my oven-adjust as you need to) these should be soft.  Let cool then frost. They are pretty easy, but take a little more time than homemade Oreos.

Enjoy! :)

Favorite Shops!

I have a few of my very favorite shops on Etsy. I sent a message to them asking them if I could feature them on my blog. So, here is the first of a few of my favorites.  These shops are so fun to look at I'm always finding myself going back to them. Hope you find them just as wonderful :)

This shop is  Sahrit on Etsy. I've followed along since she opened it and enjoyed seeing this shop evolve and seeing her wonderful talents. She creates crochet and knit patterns. Not just any patterns though-adorable patterns that are amazing!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am 8 years old with 20 years of experience and I love creating stuff and making people happy.

2. How did you get started with your craft?
I first started knitting when I was 11, and in my "grown up" life I was actually a dance teacher, but only after a back injury when I was 27 I rediscovered it and started making amigurumi dolls and open an Etsy shop - 5 months later it is now my main career :)

3. What are your favorite materials to work with/favorite mediums?
Right now yarn and crochet are my favorite, but I also love sewing, quilting and getting to know new fabrics and other craft mediums - even beads! :)

4. What inspires you?
Kids and babies, animals, cartoon characters and fairy tale stories.

5. What is your favorite item in your shop?
Ooooh that's hard! The problem is every new doll I create becomes my new favorite lol BUT If I had to choose, I would say right now my favorite is the Merida doll and then Ariel which was also my first and still favorite :)

6. What do you enjoy doing in your off time?
Spending time with my husband, going to movies, eating out, mini-golf and video arcades hehe

7. Where can you be found online?

Dream Big

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world."
Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman was one of the most well known "conductors" on the Underground Railroad. She led 300 slaves to freedom over a 10-year span. Born in Maryland into slavery, Tubman suffered at the hands of her masters, being hit in the head once with a weight while protecting another slave. She was able to escape her bonds of slavery with the help of a stranger, then helped others to freedom as well. Tubman worked as a cook and even as a spy during the Civil War. Harriet Tubman died in 1913 in Auburn, New York.
Birth: November 30, 1819
